THE ELEPHANT AND THE JACKALS 
The Story: - A pack of jackals once saw an elephant in a jungle. They wanted to kill him and to enjoy a hearty meal. But they had not the courage to attack such a huge animal. One of them was very clever. It decided to play a trick with him. It went to him and said in a sweet voice, “you look very grand and majestic. So we want to make you our king. Kindly follow us to your throne. It is at a stone’s throw from here.” The elephant was greatly pleased to hear the news. He followed them with great pride. But they did lead him very for into a marshy place. He was caught fast in the mud. He could not move about they rushed at him in a body. They killed him very soon and feasted upon his meat for many days.

THE MISCHIEVOUS MONKEY
The Story: - A monkey once lives in a tree the shop of a poor shoe-maker. It came down, as soon as he went in. It damaged all his tools and shoes, which it could get hold of. But it climbed up the tree, when it saw him coming out. His anger knew no bounds. But he could do the wicked monkey no harm. At last he thought of a clever plan to take revenge. He sat down in full view of the monkey, with a razor in his hand. He pretended to cut his throat with it. Then he left the razor on the table and went in. when he returned, after a few minute, he saw the mischievous monkey lying dead in a pool of blood. He was glad at getting rid of his enemy for good.

The Story: - Once there were two Arabs equally rich and strong. Each had a fine, swift horse to ride on. But they had different temperaments. One treated his horse with great love and care, while the other was very cruel to his. Both happened to take part in a certain battle. And both were wounded very badly. They fell off their horses, but there was none to come to their aid. The kindly-treated horse held the belt of his master in its teeth and galloped away wit him to the medical camp for his proper treatment. But the cruelly-treated horse was pleased to see his master in a miserable condition and kicked him to death.
            Moral: - As you sow, so shall you reap

THE DOG AND HIS SHADOW

The Story:   A dog was once running away with a large piece of meat in his mouth. He had stolen it from a butcher’s shop. Soon he came to a stream with a wooden bridge over it. He looked down by chance, and saw his own reflection in its clear water. He took it for another dog, with a larger piece of meat in his mouth. He could not bear the sight. He jumped down into the stream in order to snatch it. But the moment he opened his mouth, his own piece of meat fell down and sank to the bottom. He lost his own, and he did not get the other. He saw rightly punished for his greediness
                        Moral:   Do not be greedy

The Story:  A young lad was once buying sweets from the market. The halwai was not an honest man. He gave him a short measure. “You are not giving me full weight?” said the boy. “Never mind,” said the shop-keeper, “You will have the less to carry.” The boy said nothing in reply. He only kept back a ten-paisa piece, when he paid him for the sweets. “Look here, my boy,” said he, “you haven’t made full payment for the sweets.” “Never mind,” replied the boy, “you will have the less to count.” The dishonest shop-keeper had to keep quiet, because short payment from the lad was only due to his giving him a short measure

A DANGEROUS PLACE

The Story:  Once a sailor was very proud of the war services of his family. He said to a friend one day that his brother, father, uncle and grand-father all died at sea. “Then you should never go to the sea, for it is a very dangerous place for your family.” The sailor was greatly amused to hear these words. But he asked his friend where most of his kith and kin had breathed their last. “Well”, replied he, “every one of them passed away in his bed.” “I see”, remarked the sailor. “Then your bed is a very dangerous place for you, I must advise you, therefore, to refrain from going near it.”

The Story:    one day a gentleman had to go to his office an hour earlier than usual. He told the same thing to his servant, because he wanted to have his breakfast at . But he got it lat by ten minutes. “Why have you kept me waiting for so long?” asked the angry master. “I am very sorry, sir,” replied the servant, “for this delay. However the fault is not at all mine. My watch loses time, but I forgot to bear the fact in mind.” “Either changes your watch,” said the angry gentleman, “or I will have to change my servant.”

The Story:     Once there was a crow. He was feeling very thirsty. He flew about in search of water. He caught sight of a jug and flew down to it. But the water was too low for him to reach it. He was greatly disappointed. He was about to fly away, when he thought of a clever plan. He saw a heap of pebbles beside him. He brought some of them and dropped them into the jug, one by one. This made the water rise to the brim. He drank it to his heart’s content and flew away full of great joy.

The Story:    there lived a fox in a certain jungle. He was very hungry one day. He came out of his hole and began to move about in search of some prey. He happened to pass by a vineyard after some time. He saw big bunches of ripe grapes hanging down the wall. His mouth began to water, and he decided to eat some. He jumped at them again and again, in order to catch them. But his efforts were all in vain. However, he wanted to conceal his shame and disappointed. He, therefore, said as he took his way, “these grapes are very sour. I am, not, therefore, prepared to eat them.
            Moral:   The grapes are sour.

The Story:  Once upon a time a farmer had a bad-tempered dog. It was always chained to the gate of his farm-house. It found its way into the manger one day. It found the place very nice and comfortable. It made up its mind to stay there. When it was evening, the cattle returned home. They went straight to the manger to eat their fodder. But he growled and barked at them. They could not dare come near it. They stood in surprise at some distance and said to one another. “What a selfish dog we have to deal with! “Yes,” said the dog, I can’t eat this fodder myself, but I will not let any of you come near it.”

The Story:  There lived a landlord in a certain town. He was very fond of riding and hunting. His syce looked after them with great care and attention. He met a little girl at the gate of his stable one day. She was the youngest daughter of his head syce. He wanted to say something to her father about one of his horses. But he was not at home. He wanted to leave with her a message for him. “Do you know who I am?” said he to her. “O yes, I do,” was her quick reply. “You are the man who rides my father’s horses.”
