THE DOG IN THE MANGER

The Story:  Once upon a time a farmer had a bad-tempered dog. It was always chained to the gate of his farm-house. It found its way into the manger one day. It found the place very nice and comfortable. It made up its mind to stay there. When it was evening, the cattle returned home. They went straight to the manger to eat their fodder. But he growled and barked at them. They could not dare come near it. They stood in surprise at some distance and said to one another. “What a selfish dog we have to deal with! “Yes,” said the dog, I can’t eat this fodder myself, but I will not let any of you come near it.”
